Monthly TOEFL Essay #2: Dynamic changes will be made

            Having born on 1996, I lived in both centuries, the 20^th century and the 21^st century and maybe I would be able to live in the 22^nd century because the world is changing every second. The evolvement of the technology is so quick that it is almost impossible to catch up with all the new technologies. Due to the complex technologies, there are only minority who masters all the technologies when ordinary people are gaining from the benefits of these technologies. Technologies will evolve even faster than now as time goes on and would make ordinary people’s life more comfortable.

            First, the awesome machines will keep being upgraded every year or even month. Electronic companies such as Apple and Samsung, they have sought for improvement in machines and they kept on their work. Due to their work, there have been a tremendous change and there will be more shocking transitions in electro devices. Since cell phone was invented, there have been a lot of changes made. The first cell phone was only used for calling with no screen and it was huge. Then, the screen appeared, simultaneously, the size got a lot smaller. Ordinary people were able to carry cell phones. The gray scale screen changed to colorful screen plus, new functions were added to cell phones like camera and messages. Today, there are smart phones. Smart phones have touch screen that is very vivid and it enables the user to surf on the Internet when he or she wants to.

            Not only electro devices, people will be able to live a healthier life and an extended life due to medical transitions. Robots are starting to accomplish complicated surgeries instead of surgeons. Therefore, complex surgeries can be done which will cure a lot of incurable diseases. One of the most diseases that are threatening the lives of human is cancer. Some of the cancers are curable but if the patient comes in too late or, the cancer is located somewhere untouchable, there is no way to treat the patient. Because of this situation, many doctors and mechanics are trying hard to think of new treatment procedures and special tools that will help patients with cancer.

            One another extreme change is related to the universe. Universe is very distinct from Earth and people have been always curious about the universe. For the present time, all the developed nations are making rockets that would enable human being to go to the universe and researches about the universe whether there are organisms or not. Technologies are getting advanced every year which means that many years later, people could live outer Earth. This will be a tremendous change because living in the outer Earth means living where there is no water, gravity and air. It seems almost impossible but there is a high possibility this will be a success due to the fast technology change.

            Every year is very distinct from another which means that the world is changing very fast. So by end of the 21^st century, there will be series of innovations in diverse areas which will make people’s lives more comfortable. 

You are not the only Earthling

         You slaughtered and will slaughter about 100,000 earthlings in your life. Even though you never actually killed an animal but because you are a confederate, you are as evil as a killer. However, the reason why you are not going to jail is because that people do not realize how serious the matter is. They try to avoid what they have done although they know it is bad. There are so many ways of killing animals; you used them for food, entertainment, pet and clothes. In all kinds of ways, animals were killed by human, an ordinary man like you. It is okay until now because you did not know the true story about animals. However, after watching this video, you should feel guilty and you should never blame the death of animals on the person who is directly involved. I myself learned a lot about the truth after watching this video. I hope that many people would acknowledge the truth about animal slaughter and think about it.

         There are so many unnecessary deaths if people would only change their life styles. In the video, cruel video clips are continuously played. Animals are killed every second around the world in slaughterhouses or in factories. If people reduce the consumption of meat, if we do not consider animals as entertainment nor do not wear leather or fur jacket and love our pets, millions lives of animals are saved. Because people do not have these attitudes, 6 billion animals are killed and served in our tables, 25 million pets go homeless and are killed in streets or shelters also 100 million of animals are used for clothes. The process of killing them is so cruel, so painful. When cows are slaughtered, they are hung upside down, their neck is slit and the blood bursts out. The cruelest part is that cows are conscious when their throats are cut open. Although there are laws protecting cows or pigs, there are no laws that protect minks or other small animals that are used in fur industry. This leads to crueler ways of killing, in ways that are cheap and less time consuming. Of course, animals are not anesthetized through the killing process. One of the cruelest ways of killing was letting electricity go through the animals’ bodies by putting electric rod in their anuses and in their mouths. The electricity goes through the animal who have starved for ages and got dehydrated which kills them. Eating or wearing the weak and sick animals will lead to a negative result in humans and are affecting humans in diverse ways like diabetes, obesity or heart diseases.

         Using animals for food or clothes may seem better than using animals for entertainment or in experiments. Human have used animals for food and clothing and the reason why this is a problem now is that it has gotten out of control. However, using animals for entertainment is not necessary which makes human crueler. For instance, in bull fighting, people go into ecstasy when they see blood of the bull and when the bull is writhing in pain. They know that bulls can feel pain and they watch bull fighting because they just want to see the bulls in pain. The other unnecessary process of abusing animals is in experiments which are done under the name of welfare of humans. Vivisection stands for all experiments done on live animal for science. 19,000 animals are used for vivisection per day and 1 billion animals are sacrificed every year. There are two major errors in vivisection. First one is that animals and humans are basically different and there is no guarantee that the same result would come out from humans. Because of this error, the same experiment is done on humans when the drug is found out to be useful for animals. This seems very time-consuming and wasting innocent animals on expensive experiments. Not only for medical purposes, animals are used in military experiments. Some animals go to the outer space and some animals are given with radioactive beams and a dog is hit by an atomic bomb to test the power of the bomb. The most shocking experiment was breaking a baboon's neck with a force 6 times stronger than gravity to test what happens in an accident during wars or football. What have these animals done wrong? These innocent weak creatures are dying to save lives of human who are the reason they are dead. They can be saved from extreme sufferings if human change their behavior of considering animals like objects.

       Throughout the documentary, only one thought was lingering in my head which was “humans are selfish.” Human overpowers all other Earthlings with their greed and misuse their knowledge on killing animals. Like Tolstoy said, “As long as there are slaughterhouses there will be battlefields”, unless human change their attitude, nothing will change and there will be more unnecessary deaths of animals. Then, how should we change our attitudes? That question is easy to answer, just think in the animals’ point of view. Animals have sensation. People try to deny that fact because if they admit that, they won’t be able to have more fun. This attitude is wrong. People should think about what if I was that animal? What would I feel when another person is slitting my throat off and do not give me food nor water and cage me for years? Also, human including me should consider what Gloucester who is blind from the book "King Lear" said, “I see it feelingly.” People should feel the world and blend in to the world without any speciesism. We should acknowledge the fact that the pain that we inflicted on the animals will come back to us in more harsh ways. Therefore, we should change our living style and care more about what is happening to the animals around us. For example, being a vegetarian can be the first step.
